    HOME ABOUT eLIBRARY YOUTH SERVICES ADULTS More... Unattended Children Policy The Waldwick Public Library welcomes children all ages to use and enjoy the facilities, collections and programs offered by the Library in a safe and comfortable environment. Service to children is an important facet of the Library’s mission.Of paramount importance is the safety and well-being of children as well as adults who visit the Library. As such, children are expected to adhere to the same standards of conduct expected from adults. Parents, guardians, caregivers or designatedchaperones are responsible for the behavior of their children while in the Library.Children under the age of ten(10)may not be left alone on the Library premises without the supervision of a parent, guardian, caregiver or designatedchaperoneage sixteen (16) and above. The Library staff is not authorized to act in place of parents, guardians or caregivers and cannot adequately monitor unattended children. Unaccompanied children over the age of ten who are disruptive will be asked to leave the library. If it is determined that a child cannot safely leave the library to return home on his or her own, staff will permit the child to call a parent, guardian, caregiver or designated chaperone. If no parent, guardian, caregiver or designated chaperone can be contacted, Library staff will allow the child to remain at the Library until the responsible adult can be contacted.Action regarding an unattended child under age ten (10) years, including contacting the police, social services, or another agency, will be taken when his/her health or safety become an issue or there is disruptive behavior in violation of the patron Code of Conduct.Children who have not been picked up at closing time will be given the opportunity to call a parent, guardian, caregiver or designated chaperone and two(2)staff members will wait inside the vestibule with the child.Children who have not been picked up within fifteen minutes after closing will be left in the care of the Waldwick Police Department. Friends of the Waldwick LibraryHome Delivery Policy Friends of the Waldwick Library’s home delivery program brings library materials to residents of Waldwickwith valid library cards,who are unable to leave their home due to illness, disability, or other qualifying circumstance. Each request for service is assessed on a case-by-case basis.The guidelines for this program are as follows: 1.WaldwickLibrarywill loana variety of print and non-print materials including books, large print books, audio books, music CDs, movies or magazines to Waldwick residents throughthis service.The Library has the right to restrict the format and any titles requested based on availability. 2. Loan periods for materials are the same as for other users. Renewals will be allowed for WaldwickLibraryitemsthat are not on hold for someone else and are not from new collections. Renewals will be allowed on books borrowed from other libraries in accordance with the owning library’s lending policies. 3. Because recipients of this service receive and return library materials based upon the homedelivery schedule, no overdue fines will be chargedif items are returned within 2days of their due date. However, participants are responsible forall items checked out on their library cards and will be charged a fee for any lost or damaged items. 4.Home delivery patronsmay choose their own books, music, and movies if they wish. Using the online catalog, patrons can order materials online or call in their requests andthey will be ordered. For those with internet access, downloadable content is available at all times. 5. Patrons receiving homebound services must provide a safe and appropriate environment for volunteers. Sidewalks must be clear of ice, snow and other dangerous environmental elements. Pets must be kept under control and pose no danger of interaction with the volunteer. 6. Home Delivery volunteers are not allowed to “visit” with those requesting materials. Volunteers are scheduled to pick-up and deliver materials and timely completion of their task is noted by library staff. 7. You must submit one of the following. Your evidence must be an original or certified, physical copy. Photocopies and notarized copies are not acceptable. Fully-valid, undamaged U.S. passport (may be expired) U.S. birth certificate that meets the following requirements: Issued by the city, county, or state of birth Lists your full name, date of birth, and place of birth Lists your parent(s)' full names Has the date filed with registrar's office (must be within one year of birth) Has the registrar's signature Has the seal of the issuing authority Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth Certificate of Naturalization Certificate of Citizenship Show Parental Awareness If you have your own current identification document (ID), you may apply for a passport. You must show at least one parent or guardian knows that you are applying for a passport. Your passport application may be denied if we have received written objection from one of your parents or legal guardians. If you would like to volunteer, please email jennifer.kellymaloney@waldwick.bccls.org with the subject line teen volunteering. In the body of the email please include your full name, age , grade and school. Please do not use a Waldwick schools email, as the system will not allow me to send you the Sign-Up Genius sign-up link. Please review the following guidelines before registering for the volunteer program: Teen Volunteer Guidelines, updated 8/2023 V olunteering is a responsibility. All volunteers need to commit to the slots they sign up for. The children you are volunteering with are counting on you and other volunteers are waiting for open spots. All volunteers should contact Ms. Jenn in a timely manner if they need to cancel a shift. Repeated missing of your shifts will result in your removal from the volunteer program. You must sign in and out with your name and the starting and ending time for your shift. If you neglect to do so, you will not receive credit for the hours you have worked. Volunteers should not bring additional friends or children to their shift with them, numbers at certain programs may be limited. Volunteer Duties may include, but are not limited to: Set up and clean up for programs. Helping with programs. Please be prepared to participate! Demonstrate program activities to children. Checking program registration and situating registered latecomers. Preparing materials for future programs and events.

Mah Jongg Meet Up 2nd & 4th Friday of the month Mah jongg enthusiasts of all skill levels are invited to gather at the Waldwick Library on the second and fourth Friday of every month at 1:00 pm to play mah jongg. The sessions are open ended and participants can play as many or as few games as they want. Players with mah jongg sets are encouraged to bring them as the library has a limited number to loan.
